Member Profile: Nico Meijer & His F1 Rocket
[Updated January 2008] I am a low time pilot but long-time aviation buff, recently retired from a capital markets job, and looking forward to doing a lot more flying and building. I recently moved to Calgary from Toronto, so my project is still in the Mississauga shop of KitPlaneBuilders.
I started my F1 Rocket in November 2005, and hope to complete it this summer, fly to OshKosh, and then continue on to Calgary Springbank where it will be based. It will be powered by a Crossflow Subaru conversion (CF6-33), a 3.3litre 6cyl turbocharged engine rated at 350HP peak power. My Rocket also has the new tapered EVO wing, supposedly good for 6-8 knots slower stall speed and maybe a slight bit more top speed.
My engine was on the dyno Feb 1, 2007 and we went up to Collingwood, Ontario to check it out. They are still breaking it in and running no load, but it sounds awesome!
