EAA Chapter 1410 High River, Alberta Canada

Community Outreach Activities

Our chapter is active in the community participating in numerous events and working with schools and other associations. The following are some examples. If you would like to learn more about how we can help your organization, contact us.

EAA AirVenture 2006

Our Chapter was responsible for showcasing Candian Aviation history at the EAA AirVenture 2006. Our group organized and raised the necessary funds to pay for its appearance. The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Lancaster VRA was at AirVenture, Oshkosh. Its appearance was celebrated by all! RAF Lancaster pilot Joe English was there to greet the plane and many asked for signatures and autographs. Four other Lancaster vets arrived as well and talked to interested folks. On Friday and Saturday during Air Venture, the plane took part in a heavy bomber review. RCAF "living historians" wore authentic gear. See the photos! Our chapter had over 10 members man the tent and educated many on the fine qualities of this historic aircraft.

As a result of our success, EAA International has asked us to organize an annual "Canadian Corner" at AirVenture for 2007.

Lancaster Museum in Nanton

The EAA Chapter 1410 is an active supporter of the Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum. One example is the Chapter fundraising partnership for getting the Hamilton-based flying Lancaster to AirVenture in 2006.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Lancaster VRA was at AirVenture, Oshkosh July 2006. This was a partnership and fundraising venture with the Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum located in Nanton, Alberta, Canada and our EAA Chapter 1410. The Lancaster flew into Whitman Field Oshkosh, on July 27th and departed again on July 30. During this time it flew in two air-show displays. Its appearance at AirVenture Oshkosh is due to the efforts of EAA Chapter 1410 High River members, who took on the responsibility to underwrite the cost of this venture. These costs were offset by donations and other revenue streams in partnership with members from the Nanton Lancaster Society and our chapter.

Make sure you visit their fantasic museum.

Cayley Elementary School Grade Six’s Experience Aviation at High River (CEN4)

If you liked flying Young Eagles, you should have been at the High River Airport on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 when Eileen led the Cayley School Grade VI class on an aviation field trip. These kids are Young Eagles in spirit and when the opportunity arrives they will take flight and experience for themselves all the theory of flight which preceded this important science field trip to CEN4.

On May 9, however, the winds of spring were howling around the airport and the class although energetic and enthusiasttic were pleased to be able to look at the flying models inside Brian's hangar and see airplanes being constructed and under maintenance. Later they got a quick tour of C-FBJJ, the ‘purple airplane’ and in the few seconds that each kid had to settle into the cockpit, it was obvious there were some budding Reno racers.

Eric Giles of Savannah Aircraft, who provides builders with assistance, had several models in different stages of construction. Eric drew the kids into a circle and explained the basic workings of the Rotax engine often used in the Savannah aircraft and also gave the kids a close-up and back side view of a plug-and-play type of instrument panel.

This is an outreach initiative that brings the community to our airport, to aviation and perhaps someday to our own Chapter.

Annual Father's Day Fly-in High River

Saturday, June 18, 2006 was our annual Father’ s Day Fly-in at the High River Regional Airport. And as already established last year, this was the day that our EAA Chapter 1410 hosts the Young Eagle rides for kids, 8 to 17. We had a great time, good weather, lots of excited kids, parents, and a good number of volunteering pilots and aircraft. Look for us every year!

High River Airport

The chapter is active in supporting the High River Airport in numerous activities. Every Father's Day for the last two years, our Chapter has helped promote the High River Fly-in and provided pilots to give Young Eagle Flights to the public.
