Workshop Course Types
Sheet Metal Basics - The two day Sheet Metal Basics workshop is designed to help you discover how to build or restore a sheet metal aeroplane. Our goal is to present the basics of sheet metal constructions and applications, and to give you a solid understanding of this building method. This is a very comprehensive 2-day course and all tools and materials are provided. Read more.
Fabric Covering - The Fabric Covering workshop is an intensive two-day course on general fabric covering techniques using the Poly-Fiber covering process presented by EAA. The course begins with a discussion of safety issues and general fabric covering. It is designed to present the methods of covering in discussion form, followed by the practical hands-on experience for each step. The students actually cover an aircraft structure, from the preparation stage all the way through spraying on colours. All tools and materials are provided during the class. Read more here.
Electrical Systems, Wiring and Avionics - This two day workshop will assist you in installing your entire electrical system. You will do wiring projects to practice new skills. Definitions of electrical terms are discussed along with information on choosing the proper wire size, how to route wire and circuit protection. Installation of avionics and antennas is thoroughly covered. Read more here.
The Composite Construction Course will present basic composite building techniques. This two day course is an intensive "hands-on" workshop discussing tools needed, safety aspects of composites, moldless construction to include "hot-wiring", bonding methods for composite kitplanes, etc. A large amount of time will be spent learning the basics of composite construction. Amateur-Built Aircraft Inspections
This interactive course of studies is based on the requirements of the amateur-built aircraft owner to comply with the maintenance requirements of CAR 625 B & C. It is broadly based on the FAA credited course for the Repairman’s Certificate for the ELSA aircraft category. The course objective is to provide the Canadian aircraft owner of an amateur-built aircraft enough training so that he or she can confidently carry out the annual inspection and determine that the aircraft is in a condition for safe operation, and then sign out the required logbook entry.
The course starts with a review of the Rules and Regulations relating to the Canadian amateur-built aeroplane. It covers maintenance issues and time schedules, required documents and documentation, weight and balance issues, and operating limitations. It covers placards, and defines ‘minor’ and ‘major’ changes and subsequent requirements. It also discusses ‘airworthiness directives’ (ADs) and service letters, and their effects and compliance requirements for amateur-built aircraft. More information here.
Test Flying and Creating the POH for Amateur-Built Aircraft
A new Canadian course that every builder of a homebuilt aircraft shouldattend. The course syllabus is basedon proven test flight procedures, starting with the very first flight andthen expanding the flight envelope. It is basedon the premise that flight profiles are kept within the capability of the novice pilot and homebuilder, but assist in developing the knowledge and experience to make their flying experience safe, practical, and intimate with the aircraft. Exercises are designed to help the pilot gather the flight test data ,interpret it, and write it into a Pilot Operating Handbook for the specific aircraft.
